Howcrafts is a publishing company and community that's passionate about crafts - passionate about making them but also passionate about sharing the knowledge of crafting. In our humble opinion, making things is about the most fun thing you can do this side of heaven. Creating something from (almost) nothing - you can't beat it. It's what makes our world go round. We publish books on crafts that you, the readers, vote for, and we've got a little innovative system going where you can upload pictures of your creations and we'll include them in our books...
We're also fascinated about the social side of crafts - how the skills have been developed, honed and passed on from generation to generation, sometimes for thousands of years. When you make something you're not alone, and remembering the history of the crafting process adds a real depth to the experience. And we're seeking to add to that long line of knowledge with our books that grow with readers' input.
How2crafts was started by John Morse-Brown in 2009. Coming from a very practical family (apparently he could bang nails in before he could talk but that makes it sound like he's an über geek with no social skills...) he learnt the joy of crafting from a very early age. His rather eclectic choice of things to make over the years (everything from paper models, submarines, shoes, wine, shirts, a papiér maché greek urn and a concentrating solar cooker) is reflected (somewhat) in the choice of books here. Having a young family means it's now mostly breadmaking, dolls houses and shelving but as long as he can make it he's happy.
Books published by How2crafts include books on soap making, printmaking, felt biscuits, felt making (handbags), stitched handbags and dyed acrylic jewellery.
